陈默也生于北京,毕业于上海音乐学院,随陈宏宽教授学习多年。分别由奥柏林音乐学院和伊利诺伊大学授予其艺术家文凭和音乐艺术博士学位。他已赢得十余项国际比赛大奖,如享誉国际的悉尼国际钢琴比赛和辛辛那提世界钢琴比赛等,并被美国CME基金会授予国际表演艺术基金奖。2012年至2015年间他被授予凯特·尼尔·金利奖(Kate Neal Kinley Award)、菲尔茨曼钢琴基金会奖学金以及查尔斯·罗斯基金(Charles Ross Fellowship)。
2019年作为高层次人才引进至上海音乐学院钢琴系。仅数年间他的学生在世界重大赛事中屡获历史性奖项,他在五年多的时间里五次获得“贺绿汀艺术成果奖”。
陈默也演奏足迹遍及全球四大洲,他与辛辛那提交响乐团合作演奏的拉赫玛尼诺夫《第三钢琴协奏曲》被《辛辛那提问询者》杂志称为:“罕见的诠释:无懈可击的技术和艺术性的完美融合”;他2015年在卡内基音乐厅的独奏音乐会被媒体称赞为“雄伟与抒情的完美结合”。

作为环球的录音艺术家,陈默也在当今最具影响力的德意志留声机(DG)厂牌的个人专辑《四种文化》获得银禧大奖之“最佳独奏专辑”。DG近年又收录了他的演奏于专辑《平和琴境》(Peaceful Piano Moods)中,迪卡古典(Decca Classics)厂牌和环球雄辩系列也收录了其现场录音。他其它的现场录音被收录在专辑《返场!》中,由ABC古典唱片于2016年出版。
他的演奏艺术已在国际上被广泛关注,《留声机》杂志称其演奏的拉赫玛尼诺夫钢琴奏鸣曲具有“极其强大的控制与非同一般的幻想性”;《澳洲人》杂志补充道:“(不确定)作曲家本人是否能超越他的演奏”;他于2019年在新西兰与克赖斯特彻奇交响乐团合作演出的拉赫玛尼诺夫《第四钢琴协奏曲》由新华社(新华网)、《中国日报》和《新西兰信报》联合报道。2020年与国家大剧院管弦乐团在“龙凤呈祥——全球华人新春音乐盛典”中演出普罗科菲耶夫钢琴协奏曲的同时,作为嘉宾登上该期凤凰卫视《名人面对面》节目,并应凤凰卫视和联合国教科文组织之邀参与“坚韧艺术”特别节目。此外,上海人民广播、比利时法语广播、新西兰广播、澳大利亚广播、特别节目广播等也曾对其进行特约专访和报道。

Praised by The Cincinnati Enquirer as playing with “combined bravura and artistry” for his interpretation of Rachmaninov’s third piano concerto with Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and by Frequent Business Traveler as “majestic and lyrical” for his recital at Carnegie Hall in 2015, Moye Chen has performed extensively as a concert pianist in America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
Highlights of his past seasons include the performances at the renowned venues and festivals such as Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, the Mariinsky Theater, the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Benaroya Hall, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Petit Palau Hall, National Center for the Performing Arts, Shanghai Grand Theater, Xinghai Concert Hall, Mariinsky International Piano Festival, Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, Deia International Music Festival, DoCha Chamber Music Festival, Brussels Piano Festival, International Piano Summer in Cochem and Tongyeong International Music Festival; as well as the appearances as a soloist with the Mariinsky Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, the NCPA Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and International Orchestra “Virtuosos of Madrid”, etc.. Mr. Chen has collaborated with the internationally celebrated conductors and performers such as Valery Gergiev, Sir Andrew Davis, William Eddins, Benjamin Northey, Nicholas Milton, Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici, Hamish McKeich, Jia Lu, Ryan Haskins, Stefan Milenkovich, Tasmin Little, Kathron Sturrock and Hung-Kuan Chen. As a chamber musician, he regularly performs with the renowned Zhi-Jong Wang and Yun Zeng.
Mr. Chen is the recording artist of Universal Music. His album Four Worlds on the Deutsche Grammophon label was awarded the “Best Solo Album” of the Jubilee Award in Guangzhou, and commented “…With colossal authority and not a little fantasy.” It was described by Limelight Magazine as a performance “leaves one with the feeling that here is a remarkable talent and the prospect of hearing him perform some of the more substantial works in the repertoire is an exciting one.” The Australian later added for his rendition of Rachmaninov’s sonata: “Could the composer-pianist himself have achieved any better?” Some of his other recordings have been collected in the album Encore! on the ABC Classics label.
Mr. Chen is the winner of competitions such as the world-renowned Sydney International Piano Competition and Cincinnati World Piano Competition. He was awarded the 2017 Center for Musical Excellence (CME) International Performing Arts Grant, the 2015 Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship and the 2014 Feltsman Piano Foundation Scholarship.
A native of Beijing, China, Moye Chen studied at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he currently serves as Associate Professor of Piano; his Artist Diploma and Doctor of Musical Arts degree were conferred respectively by Oberlin Conservatory of Music and University of Illinois. His principal teachers include Hung-Kuan Chen, Angela Cheng, Robert Hamilton, William Heiles and Xiaosheng Zhao.
